Anytime is a great time to be outdoors, especially in the Rocky Mountain region. This American mountain range offers activities for everyone from the avid outdoorsman to the weekend warrior – scenic hiking and biking trails and awe-inspiring vistas. When it comes to hiking, the following Rockies destinations are perfect regardless of your usual outdoor activity. Here are some must-see spots in the Rockies.
For instance, who doesn’t love flowers? At Siyeh Pass in Montana, hike the trails and check out the alpine wildflowers of Glacier National Park. Siyeh Pass trailhead is just east of Logan Pass off the Going to the Sun Road. The trailhead itself is worthy of a few Instagram hearts with its epic scenery. The trail takes you through the high country, beside a creek, and through a forest of spruce – then it opens up into a meadow filled with the most kaleidoscopic view of a meadow of flowers. Every summer, this valley is alive with color.
If you suffer from allergies, be sure to bring along a pack of antihistamines before you set out for the trails. Take your dose at the trailhead and you’ll be good to go when you arrive at the flowery meadow.
When you arrive at the summit of Siyeh Pass, you’ll be greeted with a significant amount of snow-covered peaks, most of which have snow throughout the year. As these are not inhabited areas, note that this is known as Bear Country – it’s a good idea to pack some bear spray and a powerful horn as you traverse these paths, just in case a bear happens to cross yours.
Another great spot amongst the Rocky Mountains is found at Goldbug Hot Springs in Idaho. While trails and hiking make for a great getaway, your body might not be used to the abuse of long hikes. This is one of the reasons why the Goldbug trail is such a treat for those who know about it.
You’ll find the Goldbug Hot Springs trailhead on a dirt road off Highway 93. Please note: this is a rather rugged hike for even the most experienced hiker. It’s a grind getting through nearly two miles of forest and desert till you finally reach the mountainous location where a hot spring greets you – as does a breath-taking view of the surrounding valley. And the icing on the proverbial cake? A cascading waterfall feeds this secret spring. Not many people know about Goldbug, so take advantage before it’s discovered.
When planning your hiking trips, make sure you don’t miss these must-see spots in the Rockies.
